EV Charger Installation

EV Charger Installation in Ringwood

Our customer in Ringwood wanted a Myenergi Zappi charge point installed beside their detached garage. The existing supply to the garage was not big enough to take a charge point on top of the load already on it. We ran a new dedicated supply from the house, keeping the cable route as discreet as possible around the property.

How the job went

  1. 1

    The brief

The customer wanted the charge point located by the detached garage. Before quoting any EV charger installation, we check what is feeding the position the charger needs to go in, so the garage supply was the starting point here.

  2. 2

    What we found

The existing supply to the garage was too small to take a charge point on top of what was already there. A charge point draws a sustained load rather than a short burst, so it needs capacity of its own rather than whatever happens to be left over.

  3. 3

    What we did

Rather than compromise on where the charger went, we ran a new supply cable from the house to the garage and fitted a compact consumer unit alongside the existing one. That gives the charge point its own correctly protected circuit, and nothing already in use at the garage was disturbed.

Routing it tidily was the larger part of the job. The cable runs low around the property, below the level of the existing shingle, so it sits out of sight rather than tracking across the walls. Where it crossed gateways, we carefully lifted the existing paving, routed the supply underneath and reinstated the slabs afterwards, leaving very little indication they had ever been disturbed.

  4. 4

    The result

The customer has a 7kW tethered Zappi at the garage on its own correctly protected circuit, with the garage’s existing circuits untouched. The new supply is almost invisible: below shingle level around the property and under the paving where it crosses the gateways.

The customer was pleased enough with how the work was left to invite us back to rewire the garage and fit new sockets and lighting.
