Local Electricians Covering Wilton And The Villages West Of Salisbury
Wilton sits around nine miles north west of our base in Downton, on the other side of Salisbury, and is well within the area we cover. It is an old market town, and the housing stock reflects that: a great deal of stone and brick property of real age, a conservation area at its heart, and a good number of homes that have been extended, converted or subdivided over the years.
That is what shapes the work here. Older properties rarely have a tidy electrical history. Circuits get extended rather than replanned, a consumer unit gets changed without the wiring behind it being reassessed, and the result is an installation that works but that nobody has looked at as a whole for decades. A lot of what we do in Wilton starts with finding out what is actually there.
We are NICEIC Approved Contractors and MCS Certified Installers, family-run, with over twenty years behind us. On older Wilton property that experience is the part that counts: knowing what a building will take before anyone starts cutting into it.
What We Provide
Electrical Services We Provide In Wilton
All carried out by our own electricians. On an older property the honest answer is often smaller than you expect, and we would rather tell you that than quote for the larger job.
House Rewiring
Full and partial rewires for older Wilton properties, planned around solid walls, lath and plaster, and rooms that cannot simply be chased out. We stage the work where possible, protect finishes throughout and certify everything on completion.
Learn more
Electrical Installations
Consumer unit upgrades, additional circuits, lighting and power for conversions and extensions. On older Wilton homes the first job is usually establishing what the existing installation actually is before anything is added to it.
Learn more
EV Charger Installation
Home charge point installation, including properties where parking is away from the house or on a shared frontage. We check the supply and the board first, and plan a cable route that suits the building rather than the shortest line.
Learn more
Outdoor Lighting & Power
Garden and courtyard lighting, power to outbuildings and workshops, and external lighting that suits an older property rather than fighting it. Specified and installed to survive outdoors.
Learn more
Solar Panel Installation
MCS certified solar PV designed around your roof, orientation and actual electricity use, backed by insurance-backed guarantees. We will tell you honestly where a roof or a planning constraint makes solar a poor fit.
Learn more
Solar Battery Storage
Battery storage, inverter repairs and upgrades, and battery only installations for homes that already have panels. Storage is what makes solar pay for households that are out during the day.
Learn moreRewiring And Period Property Work In Wilton
Rewiring an older property is a different job to rewiring a modern one, and the difference is almost entirely in the planning rather than the wiring. Solid walls, lath and plaster ceilings, original floorboards and rooms that cannot be stripped back all change how cable is routed and how much making good is involved.
We survey the property properly first, agree where cable can and cannot run, and plan the work in stages where that keeps the house usable. Floors and finishes are protected before anything starts. Where a wall or a ceiling genuinely cannot take a chase, we will say so and propose an alternative rather than damaging something that cannot be put back.
Not every older property needs a full rewire. A partial rewire, or a consumer unit upgrade with the circuits tested and the worst of them replaced, is often the right answer. We will tell you which, with the reasoning, rather than quoting for the larger job by default.
Consumer Units And What Is Behind Them
A new consumer unit on an old installation is one of the more common things we are asked to look at in Wilton, and it is worth understanding what it does and does not achieve. A modern board brings the protective devices up to date. It does not improve the cable behind it.
Where the existing wiring is sound, a board change is a sensible, proportionate upgrade. Where it is not, fitting a new board over old circuits can simply mean the new protection starts tripping, because it is now detecting faults the old board never would have. Either way, the circuits need testing before the decision is made, not after.
We test first, tell you what the results actually show, and quote for the work the installation needs. If that is just a board, it is just a board.

Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you cover Wilton?
Yes. Wilton is around nine miles from our base in Downton, around twenty minutes away and comfortably inside the area we cover for all of our work, along with the surrounding villages.
Can you rewire a listed or conservation area property?
In most cases yes, but the approach matters and so does the paperwork. Listed building consent may be needed depending on what the work involves, and we plan routes to avoid damaging historic fabric. Tell us what the property is at the enquiry stage and we will talk through what is realistic before anyone commits.
Do I need a full rewire or just a new consumer unit?
That depends entirely on the condition of the circuits behind the board, which is something to establish by testing rather than by looking. A new board on sound wiring is a sensible upgrade. A new board on failing wiring usually just means the new protection starts tripping. We test first and tell you what the results show.
Will a rewire mean moving out?
Not usually. We stage the work where we can so the property stays usable, and we agree beforehand which rooms are affected when. On a full rewire of an occupied house there will be days that are disruptive, and we will be straight with you about which ones rather than discovering it together.
Can you install an EV charger at a property with no driveway?
Only where there is somewhere off the public highway to park and charge. We cannot run a cable across a public pavement without an approved cross-pavement solution and the relevant permissions. If your parking is on-street, that is the route to look at, and there is grant funding attached to it.
Do you do emergency call outs?
We work Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm, and we focus on planned installation work rather than out of hours call outs. For anything urgent and unsafe, contact your network operator or an emergency electrician.
How do I get in touch?
The enquiry form on this site is quickest, or WhatsApp. You can also email or call us during working hours.
